Updating CCS5.3's compiler and SD emulator support from help_>checkfor updates leaves CCS unable to emulate.

I just updated CCS 5.3.0.00090 to the latest SpectrumDig drivers from the CCS->Help->Check For Updates menu.  Now my code loads, but no breakpoint is hit, execution starts immediately and when you pause the program, the code displayed is completely wrong.  You can start again and program output indicates the program is running just fine.
At the same time I updated the compiler from 4.9.5 to 5.0.5.
I am targeting a StellarisWare LM4F (Tiva) target.
What broke?  Was it the ARM compiler/linker, or the spectrum drivers?
DigitalSpectrum only has drivers for CCS4 support.  Where is the CCS5 support?
How do I get back to a working system?
