reasons led to ECC error

Hi,

Hercules mcus can detect the ECC errors of the flash and the ram, I wonder about the reasons which led to those errors? How did that errors happen?

Hi Yong,

ECC errors can occur if one or more bits change. There can be numerous causes for this, but some examples are under programmed cell in Flash or a cell going bad (Flash or RAM).

Thanks for responding, do you mean the programmed cell's value may be changed by the program unexpected? Why a cell going bad occur? Do you have any references about that. I'm a fresh that I've little experience about the ECC errors happening.

Yong,

Electrical or magnetic interference inside an ECU can cause a single bit memory to spontaneously flip to the opposite state. (Soft Error)
ECC will be able to catch this kind of event.
