Error connecting to target

Hello,

I am running a laptop with Ubuntu 12.04LTS on it using CCS5.4 to try and communicate with a Stellaris LM4F120 Board. I have a project that that builds without error, but when I go to debug it I get this error: CORTEX_M4_0: Error connecting to the target

I have double checked the plugs on the mini-USB and the USB on the laptop. When the board is connected to the laptop the port is enumerated as /dev/ttyACM0. Which is the same port enumerated on another laptop.

We don't have any problems connecting to another laptop with the same configuration. Both laptops are Lenovo though one is a slightly different model. It shouldnt make a difference.

There is not yet official support for the launchpad, however have a look at this wiki for a few potential suggestions and unofficial work arounds:

Quick update.

Now Im getting this error:

CORTEX_M4_0: GEL Output:
Memory Map Initialization Complete
CORTEX_M4_0: Error connecting to the target: Frequency is out of range.

....

Any idea on how to fix that?

"Frequency is out of range" message indicates that CCS cannot detect/connect the board. Can you double check to make sure all steps in the ccs installation instruction for Linux are followed? Please also start ccs from command line, and see if any messages are printed on the terminal, if they are, they might give some clue.

The error was solved by launching CCS through the terminal as sudo. What steps do I need to take to make it so that I can launch from the menu without having to do the sudo command?

Could it be that you need to change the udev rules permission for user?

This is copied and pasted from the forum link that you followed.

"CCS still wasn't working, and now it complained about the target's clock, but again, in the console there were some warning now regarding the permissions of the device file placed in "/dev/bus/usb/...." folder. So I added this to one of the existing udev rule files.

SUBSYSTEM=="usb",ENV{DEVTYPE}=="usb_device",ATTRS{idVendor}=="1cbe",ATTRS{idProduct}=="00fd",MODE:="0666"

And now, apparently, it works!"

Try to change the permission to 0777.
