Evalutaion of TM4C123GH6ZRB

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TM4C123GH6ZRB

Hello team,

I would like to evaluate the TM4C123GH6ZRB (157 pin BGA). The only evalkit available is the Tiva C LaunchPad with TM4C123GH6PMI (64 pin LQFP). From the block diagrams and datasheets, I can only find the following differences.

1. Number of peripherals/GPIOs

2. Package

Given this, can I safely evaluate the funcionality of the TM4C123GH6ZRB on the Tiva C LaunchPad? I am assuming the peripherals will perform exactly alike and that any code I write on the LaunchPad will be portable to the TM4C123GH6ZRB. Is this the proper eval board for this device? Any feedback from the team as to how I can best evaluate this chip would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • While far from, "the team" - can report that very first LX4F (may they rest in peace) Eval board was populated w/BGA device - enabling early test/eval of each/every pin and packaged peripheral.  (exactly as you seek)

New method - of first providing "pin-restricted" versions - flies in the face of most all past MCU issues - most vendors.

Have made no effort to review data - those parts - but caution against the belief/hope that all peripherals will perform "exactly" alike.  (internal geometry of larger device may cause some variation in propagation delays - and other issues may intrude)

In general - most performance measures usually will be "close" (i.e. other than power usage) but you listed "exact" - and such exactness usually demands post wafer probing to "really" confirm...  You may also consider the frequency of "TBD" - buried deep w/in MCU spec - might this also challenge your "exact?"
