TMS570LS31 HDK problem(maybe a short across between the source and gnd)

Hi,

Just a moment ago, I want to test the voltage between the NERROR pin(pin4 on J10) and the GND pin, while, some bad thing happened, one probe of the multimeter may be have a short across between 2 pins(I don't know which are they). Then, the leds on the board turned off suddenly, I just turn the power down.

When I turn on the power again, none of the led light. I thought maybe some components have burned out. I just test the 2A quick blow(F1) through the multimeter‘s diode files, the buzzer didn't ring.

When I link the miniusb with the PC only, the D10 and D11 shinning less than 1 secend and turn off, then D12 lights continuously.

Does it may have a serious consequences just like burn the chips? Can I fix it by myself?

Is it good to turn on the power again to test the voltage of the F1? Or, do you have any experience about that to find out the damaged component?

yong.

  • Yong,

You almost certainly blew the fuse.  The main logic on the board is powered through the fuse.  So most everything will not have power.

Except the emulator on the board is USB powered.  So when you plug in the USB you will seee the emulator LEDs come on.

If you try to connect to the target you *should* get some message about the target power being lost.

Likely you did not damage the chip by fumbling with the multimeter probe if you just shorted two pins.   Shorting an IO to ground wouldn't normally blow the fuse.

You probably shorted power and ground with the multimeter probe.  If you replace the fuse you will likely be back up and running.

I've done this myself before so don't feel bad.

  • Thanks a lot, I'll check the voltage of the F1, if the voltage of the F1 is just the source and the gnd, it must be sure the fuse blowed. I'll check it later .
