Cannot integrate stellarisware on ccsv5

Hi,

I have ccsv5 which i installed when i bought the msp launchpad. I also purchased the stellaris launchpad. Now, I downloaded the stellarisware and followed the guide here to setup a new project with stellaris launchpad.

http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Creating_new_CCS_v5_Project_with_Stellarisware

But when i select the "driverlib-cm3 and cm4f" and click finish, i get error as following:

Error: Import failed for project 'driverlib-cm4f' because its compiler definition is not available. The project does not appear to be a 'CCS Project'. Please try importing it through the 'General > Existing Projects into Workspace' wizard.
Error: Import failed for project 'driverlib-cm3' because its compiler definition is not available. The project does not appear to be a 'CCS Project'. Please try importing it through the 'General > Existing Projects into Workspace' wizard.

I am using ccsv5 and windows 7 professional 32bit.

Kindly help.

  • Had you tried to use the Eclipse import wizard?

Likewise insure the extracted project is not in the workspace directory you specified during the CC5 install or project paths can or will be mangled!

Other words unpack the project files in another folder other than the workspace folder on you hard disk and select the board of choice in the wizard browse feature.

You don't have to select the drivlerlib-cm3 as the wizard will include it with the boards project folder you choose.

Anish hope this helps you out!

  • Hi Brett,

Thanks for your reply. But I cannot understand your answer. I even tried to import the "MylaunchpadBoard" Under "C:/Stellarisware/boards/", I get the same error. Can you brief please? I imported using the wizard you've shown above in the picture.

    Thanks.

EDIT: Also, in any project properties, I only seethe MSP compiler and linker. Not one for the stellaris? Do I need to add somewhere?

I have in my system this: CCSv5 installed with support for MSP430 launchpad and stellarisware software installed by default in "c:/stellarisware" Do i need to do something to link the stellarisware software to ccs?

  • Do i need to do something to link the stellarisware software to ccs?  No you do not, mainly because the Eclipse import wizard will do that for you.

Make certain you have not created an empty project folder in the project explorer view pain and are attempting to import into that folder.

Also make certain you have selected near the bottom of the drop down menu  "Import existing Eclipse project"

The wizard should create the entire project folder hierarchy if you have administrative user rights in Win7. Sometimes that security can trip up even a simple folder creation by a wizard not being delegated authority.

The best way to ensure Win7 security is not interfering is to run CCS5 as the administrator..

Error: Import failed for project 'driverlib-cm3' because its compiler definition is not available. The project does not appear to be a 'CCS Project'. Please try importing it through the 'General > Existing Projects into Workspace' wizard

This error makes it sound like the self extracting zip was corrupt or missing the .ccsproject file in the ccs-cm3 folder under driverlib folder.

  • @Anish,

It seems to me you have only the MSP430 software tools installed and this is not enough to work with ARM Cortex micro controllers. StellarisWare/TivaWare is the good addition to work with for ARM, but you need also the specific tools. If you need also MSP micro you can install both, otherwise MSP part is not needed. You need to install ARM specific tools.

  • @Petrei,

Yeah, I have only the MSP430 support in the CCS installations. But isn't the stellarisware enough? (this one:SW-EK-LM4F120XL-9453.exe) If not what extra software do i need to install?

and also, do i need to download CCS again with stellarisware integrated? - this would be the last thing for me... Since its about over a gb in size.

  • Hi,

It is not clear to me what do you want to do:

    a) work with ARM/Tiva: you need to install ARM tools, (which are different than MSP430 tools). SW-EK-LM4F12XL-9453.exe are some example+libraries, not tools.

    b) work with MSP430: you don't need SW_EK... - does not match the processor.

Yes, recommend to re-install if you are in a) case and pay attention to selecting what to install; I know it is big enough...StellarisWare should be installed after that.

  • Hi Petrei,

Thankyou verymuch. Now i got it clear. Yes, i thought that SW-EK-LM4F12XL-9453.exe is enough to compile for arm processor and i am wrong.

Now, yes, i have only msp430 support installed with ccs. Now, what are the software (ARM tools ) I need to install to integrate arm compiling in ccs?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Brett,I dont know why you gave the aboce link? I have only stellaris launchpad and not the new tiva. I prebooked it when it was 4.99$ . Can i compile programs for my board by following the above document?

  • Hi,

Please use this link - it contains all you need to start with ARM-Cortex-M4.

The first item on this page refers to downloading and installing CCS - pick up latest version and install it. Be careful at items you need to install - for the moment i don't remember well all steps - but take into account the essentials: when a list with micros to work with is presented, watch for and select items with keywords "ARM" and "Cortex" - the rest will be automatic.

You can install CCS in a new folder - don't mess it up with MSP430 - it is allowed to have many installations (I have three).

After install, follow the steps in the above link. If you will have problems - come back with questions. One warning: it is possible at one moment to have problems - so in this case it is wise to follow the advise poster Brett gave to you - i.e. you should look for/search/install the latest TivaWare software and install it, instead the version 9453 you already have(maybe it is wise to do it from the beginning). This is because of the evolution since you purchase the board. The essentials of software changes are described by document indicated by Brett.

  • Worthy to mention CCC5 uses JAVA extensively in its design - WIn7 does not have JAVA installed out of the box. Also not sure if CCS5 installs JAVA without notice to the user of doing so or if JAVA is part of the user selectable custom install features.

My machine had JAVA installed, the Coffee cup icon in the tray prior to installing CCS5. Would like to point out many others have had installer issues revolving around JAVA that would be reported in the CC5 jammer log along with other errors if any.

PDF: Not sure what the launch pad includes but Stellarisware is migrating to Tivaware for the LM4 cores, without verifying if your MPS430 might have a Cortex ARM4 being the original error posted cited driverlib-CM4 or either CM3-LM3 core, Admit personally trying to grasp all that migration stuff myself!

As you stated the project properties shows the MPS430 board has a tool chain part of the ARM cortex BIOS6 or sys-bios6 not sure which one or it would not show up in the list of Thumb2 compiler compatible boards in that list as I understand how CCS5 works with various boards and MPU.

BTW: CCS5 has a check for update under help to pull all the latest updates for the sys-bios, tool chain compilers etc.. gets the package up to date very rapidly depending on your internet speed. Have to believe sys-BIOS6 should have ARM4 compatibility if the MPS430 has LM4 core. Also check what packages are installed under help installed packages details.

Pertrei offers good solution, sometimes resinstall the package fixes issues.
