Tiva microcontroller with Ethernet coming in 2013

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

Chris Yorkey posted RE: LM3S Change to NRND in Stellaris® ARM® LM3S Microcontrollers Forum.

Folks,

Appreciate everyone's candid input and feedback thus far.

As to the --- When can we expect ENET devices for the LM4F parts?

In and around the end of this year, TI plans to begin sampling the Ethernet versions of LM4F Tiva-C MCUs (LM4F129x).

Stay tuned...after a long awaited introduction the devices really do have a great technical DNA.

Regards,

Chris

I'd like to start some discussion to follow up from Chris Yorkey from Texas Instruments' statement about a week ago that the Tiva LM4F129x with Ethernet is planned to begin sampling around the end of this year.

Rather than looking back and discussing the negativity surrounding the demise of the Stellaris range, can we now focus looking forward and discussing the positivity of the Tiva range.

What clock rate, flash and RAM specs are we looking at? Is timing still looking good for the end of this year? (Yes, I know I can get more info under an NDA, but this is a community forum and I'd like to discuss and share.)

Hi Vito some news about release of ENET chip?

Name sound odd why LM4F not TM4C129x??

Again I cannot get information from fae by NDA, how can I have a sample and preliminary datasheet? Pinout is enough for now so I can design a test pcb.

  • Hi Roberto,

Yes, the LM4F numbering system appears to be the old numbering system. Maybe Chris can clarify.

Are you saying that even though you have an NDA with TI, you can't get pinout information?

    Regards, Vito

  • I can clarify. Future parts in the series will be named TM4Cxxx and not LM4Fxxx. LM4F was the Stellaris prefix whereas TM4C is for Tiva C Series.

  • So, when Chris Yorkey (from TI) stated LM4F129x, he meant to say TM4C129x?

  • You may choose to assume this but I couldn't possibly comment on a future, unannounced product. ;-)

  • Does Chris Yorkey work for TI?

Hi Dave, again how can I have a sample in the (NEAR) future, how can I subscribe NDA and receive information I need to plan what to do with TIVA? Actually I am in the pcb test design phase with a wiznet device attached to an LX4F232 or what arrive when samples got delivered... If I can plan have a device in a reasonable time windows and in the present at almost pinout i can include and test soon.. I also can start redesign board where it was LM9D96 too.

I am afraid of unavailability of information....

Thank for all your effort to help us.

  • Roberto,

The only people who could fix you up with this information would be the FAE and sales people in your local TI office. If you send me a private message describing your project including projected volumes, I would be happy to try to put you in touch with someone who may be able to help. I can't promise anything, though, because this does deal with unannounced products.

Hi Dave thank fro prompt and kind answer, in Italy this time is holiday so I try contact local TI people on september   also again I try contact FAE and sales from EBV but they say'd cannot help me.  About private message I don't know how to drop it.

About volume I cannot say more two year delay and market drop don't help sell a product, so can be 100 pieces on failure or million pieces on full success (two year late I cannot guarantee nothing).

  • Hi Dave, finally I was not able to obtain information, I got datasheet  from recent release, no sample appear to be available nor stock, I just wait from distributor or please can you point me someone can help me this way?

Also tm4c129 where present on CCStudio some time before announcement, another part is present TM4Exxx series where xxx resemble tm4C coding, can we have some tip about this series? Experimental or new part to come?

Including support on CCStudio is between the lines announcing or also state NDA?

  • Roberto,

You caught us! Because our chip and board release schedules don't necessarily line up precisely with CCS releases, you may find some cases where a new part appears in CCS before it is publicly announced. That was the case with the TM4C129 series.

Today, the TM4C129 parts are considered pre-production so distributors do not have stock of them. You should, however, be able to get samples through your distributor but they will have to order them from TI on your behalf. If you just want to get hold of a development kit, the dk-tm4c129x is in stock at the TI eStore and should be available through distributors too as far as I am aware.

As far as TM4Exxx goes, these are special parts intended for the compute (personal computers, slates and tablets) space. They are not generally available.
