MAKE DEVICE SECURE LM4F120

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMFLASHPROGRAMMER

Hi staff,

I'm using a launchpad as ICDI to program a LM4F120 mounted on another board.

In CCS Studio in the debug window->advaced there is the option "make device secure" but I can't click on this option.

How can I use this option?

Can I blow the fuse to make the device secure, using the LM Flash Programmer software?

Thank you and Best regards

  • Yes, It is a good idea to start with LMFlashProgrammer.

  • You may wish to note that, "Secure" - like beauty - very much, "in the eye of the beholder."

Very hard to make an MCU, "truly secure."  Security methods offered by this/other MCU vendors offer some protections - but are far from impenetrable.

Suspect that, "determined hacker" - armed with adequate time, funds, resources - will have your code if they desire.  (chips have been, "de-capped, x-rayed etc." - few secrets remain...)

Again - this "security weakness" pervades most all MCUs - most all makers.  JTAG "fuse opening" will likely prove more of an inconvenience to you than a "pro hacker..."  (they laugh at that as a "defense...)

Limited protection may keep "some" honest - that alone may have value.  But - do adjust your concept of, "security" to better accept today's reality...

On a broader - yet similar note - too often the "regulators" have neither the "smarts, motivation, nor skills" to match those, "regulated!"   (FT Financial Times, WSJ - weekly if not daily - so report...)

  • Hi,

I have no doubt that an haker can take my code: my question was only refered to the CCS option (that I can't use and I don't know why) and if the JTAG fuse can be broken with the LMFlashProgrammer
    :)
