TMS570 family - endianess

Dear Support,

I would like to clarify an issue whether the controller TMS570 can run only with big-endian order instructions as well as data (or can be adjustable)?

This quite old post  (June 2010) states:

"For this device, there is no configurability for selecting little endian. "

but also following:

"Endianess selection is being considered for future devices."

TRM of TMS570 (spnu499b.pdf) does not mention the signal CFGIE (Instruction side endianness) and the 31st bit of the c1, System Control Register (SCTLR) as the ARM Cortex-R4 TRM (DDI0363G) does.

On the other hand, the TRM section named "1.3.1 TMS570: Big Endian (BE32)" describes it quite clear ;-)

Many thanks in advance,

Best regards, Jiri

  • Hello Jiri,

All our TMS570 series devices are configured to be Big endian only as explained in the TRM. This cannot be changed.

How ever you can look at our RM4 industrial series of parts as well. Hope this clarifies your question.

    Best Regards,

    Karthik.
