Stellaris support

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3S301

Does TI still support the Stellaris product line or has it abandoned it?

I have a few designs that use  various Stellaris parts.

One of these parts of particular interest is the LM3S301.

The WEB page states Not for new designs.

If it is supported for existing designs when is the expected end of life?

We also use the LM3S5737 and the LM3S9D90.

These parts also state not for new designs.

This was our big fear when TI bought Luminary that they would abandon support.

Regards,

Adam

  • I believe their Stellaris parts have been updated to Tiva C parts and may be drop-in replaceable.  The M3 cores had been updated to M4 cores and I think should be compatible.

Ask a distributor, or better yet see if TI has a recommended replacement PN.

Not too likely - poster's LM3S301 part is early 48 pin QFP - 64 pin is new, "minimum pin count" device.

You are forced into a new board design - and rather than "best match the old" suspect you'll be better served by reviewing MCU features, availability and price - and selecting from that matrix...

The Stellaris forum has such a, "past to new" MCU part "translator" (should work for the 2nd/3rd parts mentioned) - but the 48 pin devices have (unfortunately for you/our group) "left the building."  (unless you do not mind FUD - and long, uncertain lead times)

  • Really a shame.

That was my big fear when TI purchased Luminary.

    The WEB site states:

"This product continues to be in production to support existing customers."

How long does TI intend to support the product?

    I don't see a lot of LM3S301 in distribution (http://www.findchips.com/avail?part=LM3S301).

    Will they replenish the distributors?

Will there be an end-of-life announcement and a last time buy opportunity?

Also with regards to Tiva "drop-in" replacement.

    Is this just the pinouts?

    Is it code/binary compatible?

Does the Stellaris Peripheral Libraries port over?
