TMDXRM48HDK broken?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: RM48L952, HALCOGEN

We are using a TMDXRM48HDK in our current project to evaluate the possibilities of the RM48l952 as long as our Hardware-Team is working on our schematics.

Yesterday i wanted to test the ADC and after activating the ADC in HALCoGen i connected a potentiometer (1kOhm) to ADC-Pin8:
GND to J11[79]
VCC to 5V(TP23)
the middle pin to J9[51](says AD1IN 8)

the moment i plugged in the pin to the ADC-chanel the RM84 got hot as hell (nearly burned my finger). I unplugged USB and DC immediately, unplugged the potentiometer.

The RM48 is still working (a sci-send-loop is still sending) but i can't connect to the programmer via USB and the chip still gots very hot(not as hot as before but hotter than normal).

I checked the RM48 datasheet (SPNS177B) and section 3.1says that the input voltage for all ADC pins is -0.3V to 5.5V

Is there any possibility to save the board and where i made the mistake?

  • Hi Frank,

Can you try the 'Test connection' through the CCS and see if it goes through? If it fails, i would suggest you to take a look at the Troubleshooting guide of XDSv100 to check if JTAG is alive

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/XDS100#Troubleshooting_FAQ

    Regards,

    Praveen

  • I don't have CCS installed. I tried to install it once using the CD contained in the HDK but it didn't install CCS (it just made a folder in my startmenu with 2 links to CCS User Guide and Hardware User guide.

Because we are using Keil µVision i didn't mind till now. I tried to reinstall CCS few minutes ago but it does not install anything.

Are there other ways to test the JTAG? (I'm using nowFlash for Programming getting Error 199)

  • Frank,

Based on your emulator type, you can refer to the respective troubleshooting guides in the 'Debugging JTAG connectivity' page. If it still doesn't work, probably the connection had messed up the device.

If you have problems in installing the CCS, please refer to the CCS wiki link for solutions or you can post a query in the CCS support forums.

    Thanks,

    Praveen

  • I've been able to download and install CSS now. It has been a problem with our companies firwall.

Regarding to my problem with the JTAG connection the CCSs 'Test Connection' returned a failure and the Troubleshooting page only treats misuses/misconfigurations of the whole setup. I made sure my setup is right also i didn't change any settings since the last time the setup has been working the last time (except of the potetntiometer which is not connected at the moment.

As i stated before the chip gets very hot (you can hardly touch it) like it is massively overclocked but no clock settings have been changed. Also the function of the chip ist working fine. it only does not respond to any programming requests.
