Instaspin on Tiva or Piccolo?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MOTORWARE

Thanks Dave.  I do have one more question.

"I am curious, which TI integrated motor driver we should look at for low power stepper motors.  Especially if we want something that is compatible with InstaSpin and the lowest cost.

Do those all work with a Tiva Processor from an instaSpin perspective?  Or is it required to use a Piccolo?"

Thanks

Madhu

  • I split this out to a new thread because the new question didn't relate to the same topic as the original one.

We don't handle Motorware or InstaSPIN here but my understanding is that there is a port that runs on TM4C123 parts or, I suppose, LM4F232 parts (it was ported before the part number change). Unfortunately, this port is based on StellarisWare has not been updated to work with TivaWare. That said, it should run perfectly well on a TM4C123 part if you use it with the last StellarisWare release which you can find here.

I am not aware of any plans to update the motor software to work in tandem with TivaWare so it may be advisable to look at Piccolo if you want to be sure of continuing software support. Before making a decision, though, it would be a good idea to pose the question over in the InstaSPIN forum because the people there will be able to offer far better information than I can!
