Do some HET pins are disconnected in HDK board?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HALCOGEN

Hi,

I'm working with a TMS570LS32HDK using HET1 pins as direct output. My code simply set and clear all outputs in an infinite loop generating a squeare wave. In Halcogen I've simply enabled the HET1 driver than my main is:

    hetREG1->DIR=0xffffffff;

    int flik=0;
    while (1){
        if (flik==1) hetREG1->DOUT=0x00000000;
        else hetREG1->DOUT=0xffffffff;
        flik=1-flik;

    }

This generate a square wave of approx 2.5MHz and should do it on every HET1 pin but the pins from 8 to 14 and the pins from 24 to 30 are muted, no signal output from them. Why? Perhaps my board has some connection fault?

I've tried to reset all the pins properties but the result is the same.

    hetREG1->PDR=0x00000000;    // disable open drain
    hetREG1->PULDIS=0x00000000; // enable pull
    hetREG1->PSL=0x00000000;    // set pulldown
    hetREG1->AND=0x00000000;    // disable AND
    hetREG1->XOR=0x00000000;    // disable XOR

Thank you,

Matteo

  • Hello:

    We have received your post and will review it to provide a response.

    Regards.

  • Suggest you check:

      a) pinmux setup.   not all of the HET1 pins are the 'default' function for the pin.  For the non-default pins, you would need to change the pinmux setup and call muxInit(); in your main() function before using these N2HET pins.

      b) some of the N2HET pins are connected to other logic on the board and have switches between the path of the chip and the IO connectors.   for example see sheet 15 and sheet 18 of: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/images/e/ec/TMS570LS31x_HDK_Schematics_RevE.pdf

    You can flip the state of these above switches by changing the DIP switch S2 on the bottom left corner of the HDK.  I believe having these all 'off' should make all the pins available on the IO header.

     c) some of the pins have LEDs as a load, so depending on how you are looking at the signal it might not be 'high' even when driven 'high' (because LED can be a heavy load).   see sheet 14 of the schematic from (b).

    Hopefully this will resolve some if not all of the disconnects you are seeing.
