production grade

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS570LS3137

Hi,

recently I've run into trouble with a TMS570 RevA which is affected by some defect and, I've learned, is not labeled as "production grade" revision unike the next ones.

For the future: how can I know if a particular revision is a "production grade" or not?

There's some document or specific web page about?

thank you

  • Matteo,

There is a part nomenclature section in the datasheet of the device that has it's status:

    For example:

In this case, TMS silicon is production qualified,  TMP, TMX are not.

The naming is different for the RM series but there is a similar table in the datasheet.

This isn't tied to the silicon revision - for example you can get Rev B or Rev C silicon on the TMS570LS3137 that are both TMS.  But in the case of revision A of the 3137 it never made it to TMS status.   The 3137 in particular is a first device in it's family on a new process node, and has more issues with Rev A than later devices in the series do.

  • Hi,

I am not sure which part number you are referring to as TMS570 is a product line with a lot of product families and more specifically part numbers.

As I am not sure of the part number I cannot comment on whether RevA is production grade or not for that part number.

I can answer your 2nd question though. Our datasheets include a section "Device and Documentation Support"

    that includes the following information:

TMX  Experimental device that is not necessarily representative of the final device's electrical
               specifications.
TMP  Final silicon die that conforms to the device's electrical specifications but has not completed
               quality and reliability verification.
    TMS  Fully-qualified production device.

If the part you are ordering is not "TMS" then it isn't fully qualified and thus not meant for production .

    Regards,

    Abhishek
