Stellaris ICDI with FT2232H

Hi all,

currently, I'm trying to build my own ICDI programmer as part of a bigger board. For our company it is important to have this interface integrated on this board.

The schematic for the ICDI programmer is available at the TI website. Instead of using the old FT2232D/C chip I decided to try the newer one: FT2232H. After programming this chip with the FTDI FT_PROG tool it is recognized as Stellaris ICDI programmer. But I'm not able to establish a connection to my Stellaris Microcontroller (using Mentor Sourcery CodeBench). By using the original programmer there is no problem.

So can anyone help me? I would like to keep the FT2232H chip instead of the old D/C-chip. Is that a problem?

Hi Sebastian,

I suggest looking into the difference between FT2232D/C and FT2232H, perhaps there are enough difference between the 2 generation devices that you would need a new FTDI driver for the new device. The fact that you were unable to connect to Stellaris Microcontroller seems to indicate that the FTDI driver that you installed on your PC might need to be updated to support this new part.

Hi Sebastian,

did you manage to get the FT2232H working with the Stellaris ICDI?
At the moment i got the same problem with my custom Evaluation-board

Hello Amit,
sorry for the late answer but I found a workaround.
Keil µvision paired with the CooCox MDK Plugin was the deal for my particular problem.

Hello Tobi,

sorry for the late answer. I wasn't at work the last week. No I didnt't make it with the FT2232H, I gave up after a few days. But nontheless I'm still interested in a solution. Did you make any progress?

Hi Sebastian,
i totally forgot about this threat, im sorry...
Building a ICDI with the FT2232H was part of my Thesis and i did make progress.
One requirement was that i have to use Keils µvision. Coocox has a .dll for their own programmers and it supports the old Stellaris FT2232(D?) ICDI. I flashed the 2232H with the FT_Prog-Template provided by TI with this board and used the "FTDI_Stellaris_2_08_14" drivers from the Homepage. This approach should work with CooCox IDE as well, but i cant verify that.
