OTP should be in the safety related part?

Hello,

I wonder if I should treat OTP safety diagnostic features within my safety related system.

I am going to use LPO and I know OTP calibrates LPO.

Although OTP runs self test automotically, I don't use the OTP actively.

Is the OTP/LPO calibration so essential to MCU fundamental operation that I should treat it within safety assessed portion?

Regards,

Yusuke

  • Hello Yusuke,

The handling of the OTP should be included in the devices applicable safety manual as to our recommendation for treatment of this area with regard to safety. OTP is protected with ECC but I don't think there is a specific self test that is ran on power up. I believe you are thinking of the eFUSE area.

The OTP/LPO calibration is a highly recommended mechanism to use. If I recall, this is a simple copy of the LPO trim value in the OTP copied to a register within the LPO IP.

Note that I have also copied one of our safety team experts so they can add any necessary additional comments in regard to the safety requirements for OTP.
