ESMEKR Register and ESM Error Status Register clearing method

Hello Support,

After the ERROR Pin of ESM module have been driven LOW due to some error in either Group1 or Group2 or Group3, I want to clear only the respective ESM ERROR STATUS Register and don't want to reset the ESM ERROR Pin by writing ESMEKR Register.

Will the future new errors be captured by ESM Module even though ESM ERROR Pin is already LOW but all ESMSR Registers are CLEARED?

Please help me understand ESM Error Capture logic better.

Thank you.
Regards
Pashan

  • Hello Pashan,

It should be possible to do as you have described. i.e., clearing of the ESM status registers should not impact the active state of the nERROR pin and the state of the nERROR pin should not impact the ability of new ESM errors to be captured.

One work of caution, since the nERROR pin is used to signal an error condition to the outside world (in some cases to an external companion chip or PMIC), leaving the nERROR pin low could impact the this path of error notification and reaction to device errors in a safety system.
