DRV8301-LS31: where to find required ARM 5.0.1 on TI's site

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, HALCOGEN, MOTORWARE

Hello,

I have a stand-alone lab computer that, for security reasons, is not permitted on any network. I have gotten to the point in the Get Started document (Step 2) where I need to identify and download a compiler. All of the links are external, so I can not proceed.

Please direct me to where I can downlod this compiler off of the TI site.

I just got this kit yesterday, so I've just started to get it up-and-running.

If there are any other "hurdles" you see me having to jump over to get the kit running, please let me know beforehand so I don't waste too much time.

Thank you.

Jim

  • Hi James,

I have moved your post to the InstaSPIN forum. They will better be able to assist you.

  • Note that I tried to go to the http that the IDE referenced, but were not permitted access.

  • James,

You can use the Check for Updates in CCS Help menu, or you can download directly from

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Compiler_Releases

You have to place the compiler release folder in your installation directory for the CCS version you are running.  For example, this is where I installed my version of CCSv5.5, so I placed the latest C2000 MCU compiler at this location.

    C:\ti\ccsv5p5\ccsv5\tools\compiler\c2000_6.2.3

The kit you have is actually for our Hercules line of MCUs, so I'll move this thread to their forum.

  • James,

Which HDK and which version of CCS same with it? The kit was and tools are really targeted for an online system so updating to the latest and greatest is going to present some challenges, but I understand the constraint and the reason some companies do this.

To start, I would download an updated version of CCS (v5.5 or higher) since several issues have been resolved in this latest release. CCS has an option to download an offline installer so you could download the exe onto another networked machine and port it to your offline machine for installation. I believe this package comes with the later version of the compiler tools as well. Note that the download will have a limited license but if you change the license to a XDS100vs license, it becomes available for unlimited use with that specific emmulator.

This is one tool among several that are included in the kit which you should look at updating. Each of the downloads can be found on the TI website through a simple search. The ones you should consider updating/adding in addition to CCS v5 are Halcogen v3.06, Uniflash universal programming tool, and the Hercules Safety MCU Demos v3.20.

Links to each of these tools' pages are located on this page in the Hercules Safety MCU area of TI.com

    http://www.ti.com/lsds/ti/microcontroller/safety_mcu/tms570_arm_cortex-r4/tools_software.page#tools

Hopefully this will help and make your startup smooth. If you have any questions or issues during bring up, please utilize the Hercules Safety Microcontrollers Forum and we will help you through your start up issues as quickly as we can.

  • Thank you.

For some reason when I tried to install GUI Composer from the installation disc, The webapps directory (and contents) didn't get installed.

Where can I find this so I can run launcher (right now I get the above).

Also - for the instaspin_bldc examples, which launcher should I run for the DRV8301-LS31 Kit example to work?

    Thanks,

    Jim

  • Thanks Chuck.

I want to run one of the GUI Composer examples, but the webapps directory didn't install (the other 2 did).

I want to run the instaspin_bldc example, and get this

So I installed the GUI Composer via the Setup program on the installation disc.

Where can I find what I need.

    Thanks again,

    Jim

  • Jim,

If I recall correctly, the GUI Composer is an install option that would need to be selected on installation of CCS. You should be able to go back to the installation disk and re-run the installer to add this feature. It will not necessarily install everything else all over again so it shouldn't take too long for this.

In regard to instaspin_bldc examples, I will defer to one of our instaspin experts and let them followup with you on any of these questions. I have copied them on this post so they are aware of your questions.

  • 1. install the motorware: http://www.ti.com/tool/drv8301-ls31-kit

    2. GuiComposer: You have to install the one comes with the kit. It is a old version 1.6, which is not compatable with those versions built-in CCS5.x. After installing GuiComposer (I believe you have already done that), please copy the webapps folder (C:\ti\motorware_1_00_03_01\sw\solutions\instaspin_bldc\gui\guicomposer\webapps, the directory maybe slightly different due to different versions of motorware) to the GuiComposer.

  • I don't understand.

I've spent two days trying to get your equipment to work. I installed the software that came in the box, tried the instuctions from the "Get Started" brouchure (which don't work worth a CRAP).

I'm told by one tech suport person that software in the box doesn't work, and am directed to download something better. Then I'm told that the newest version doesn't have what I need, so I have to install something from the original installation discs.

Right now I have wasted 16 hours of my salary, translating into $1000.00.

I paid $500.00 for the kit, which for all intents and purposes doesn't work.

Will someone please give me an undetrstandble procedure for getting an example of the GuiComposer (the BLDC motor demo, for example) to work.

I need a Get Started procedure that works.

If there isn't anyone there that is cabable of providing this, I would like a full refund. I bought the kit from Arrow, so I suppose I need to take it up with the.

  • Two problems we need to solve:

    1. Make sure the CCS project can be compiled and run.

    2. Make sure the GUI composer project can run.

I can start a webex with you in need. Before starting the webex, make sure:

    1) You have the CCS in DVD or CCS5.5 installed.

    2) The Guicomposer from the DVD is installed.

    3) The motorware from the DVD or from the link I gave half a hour ago.

Let me know your convenient time, I will send you a webex link.

    Sorry for this,

    Haixiao

  • I can do it now - here are answers to your questions....

    1) You have the CCS in DVD or CCS5.5 installed: CCS 5.5.0

    2) The Guicomposer from the DVD is installed: No - one from the TI.com site (link on the WiKi)

    3) The motorware from the DVD or from the link I gave half a hour ago: From the link you gave me an hour ago.

    Thanks,

    Jim

  • As I said, the GUI composer in the wiki is new, not compatiable. But, I think, we should be able to make the motor/project running without Guicomposer.

How about a webex at 1:30PM central time today (half an hour later)?

Please send an email to haixiao.weng@ti.com, I will respond with meeting numbers.

    Regards,

    Haixiao
