I was able to use the bootloader (UART mode) to upload code to a device.

Can you explain in detail what you are doing?

For reference, the bootloader assumes your application code to start at address 0x0002_0000

In my case, I've used the Halcogen Blinky example. The only modification was to change the linker command file to link the code at this address instead of the default 0x0000_0000 as following:

Of course you have to run the post build sequence to create the .bin file as I've explained to you in a separate thread.

I can send you the .out file for the bootloader_uart that I've compiled on my setup.
Maybe there is something wrong in the way you have build it.

Have a try with mine and let me know if you have the same behavior.

When you compile the bootloader, it is necessary to disable all optimization under compiler options.

Can you send the bin file ?

Here is the bin file for the blinky project I've created.

First you have to program the bootloader in your device and then using the UART interface, you can download in the device the blinky code.

On the next boot up, the bootloader will check that the part is no more blank and will jump to the application code. In this case the blinky code. 

There is a way to force the bootloader to re download a new code by using an IO pin.
