XDS100V1, XDS100V3 and XDS100V2 is a common programmer for both uC and are the cheapest of the lot.

I guess we will require Code Composer Studio too with suggested hardware to programming.

Kindly tell me which CCS version will be fine with the hardware you suggesting.

Can we automate the programming activity with CCS?

Is CCS is the open source?

We require programming  hardware to only program the uC (no development) in a production line.Kindly suggest alternate options(some open source too).It should have option to automate the activity(e.g using command line arguments).

For TIVA devices LMFlashProgrammer can be used on a production basis but not for MSP

CCS provides the Debug Shell Script interface for programming on command line. However I would prefer that you check for the same on the CCS Forum.

 Hi Amit, to program MSP430 you can find a similar utility at ELPROTRONIC site, at end of page the free version or if serialization is needed the commercial version. Programmers from ELP are good quality but not cheap, TI distribute just production models.

I am not sure at 100% but XDS100 doesn't support MSP430 nor spy by wire protocol.

 About XDS100Vx version number 2 is bugged and frequently stop oscillating requiring reset during debug session, I don't know about version one but version 3 introduced an oscillator in place of crystal curing that issue.

I am 100% certain that XDS100V2 supports MSP430. I have been using it for some time now.

 Hi Amit, from selection guide emulators page I am not able to see MSP430 support than for FET430UIF, also Gang programmer is not so visible from tools. XDS100 is Linux supported by CCStudio so I am interested in use as MSP interface too.

 On CC menu there is no option to use XDS100, I got an eye to pinout of 14 pin connector and yes it resemble FETUIF...

 Please if not a reserved information can you tell me where to get info on XDS usage?

Mine is still a prototype and I don't think it will be available for quite some time. So for the moment it seems that both will have to go with their own emulators.

BTW IAR has a IDE environment for MSP and TIVA. May be an alternative can be there.

 Thank for info, IAR is windows centric and I don't need it, I prefer my own programmer, I own a lot of launchpad performed better on G series field programming, Elprotronic BSL, SBW and JTAG, Olimex performing also as a standalone isolated FET (useful on power control) and RF FET... When I can repair my FET USB, I remember old good parallel port FET from TI and Softbaught, XDS100 ICDI and other I got with stellaris TIVA and C2000 so I think I need no more other.

  Using XDS series on MSP was sounding good but I see as from long I know no other than FET can program MSP.

XDS100v3 is supported.Domake sure that the header form factor and pin out match the header you have it on your custom board.

I have here the Olimex XDS100v3 Rev B. I try using it's 14 pin port, same as i previously used the on-board JTAG from the "connected launch pad". And of course i have problems :) This is the message i get:

This error is generated by TI's USCIF driver or utilities.

The value is '-183' (0xffffff49).
The title is 'SC_ERR_CTL_CBL_BREAK_FAR'.

The controller has detected a cable break far-from itself.
The user must connect the cable/pod to the target.

I connected TMS, TCK, TDI, TDO, GND (pin 8) and Vref. The jumper is open, as the Olimex datasheet suggests.

Ok, i think it works now. I had to connect the "TDIS" line (pin 4 of the TI-JTAG-14) to GND (probably it is intended to detect the presence of the target board) and i have created a new target configuration file. No idea what is wrong with the old one.
