Is my launchpad connected broken ?

I played before with my launchpad and now after a trip to Europe I finally could play with my

new Lauchpad connected. I know what I'm doing most of the time but now I'm stuck

I think I have a broken launchpad connected

It was working and I did the two workshop lab things as a start(up)

I did get some flashing knobs / leds

but now the leds are off and I think forever

I think its a hardware problem because the software including the debug looks fine only no leds

I can order a new one that's not the problem but I first want to know if there are people with the same problems

and If I order a new one it not happens again so big question could there be a design issue or

is it just a monday morning made launchpad I got

  • Hi Pieter,

Please tell us a little more about your setup. Are you using Windows? What version of CCS did you install? Please post the last code you put on the device, as best you can remember, so we can try to find out what that might have done.

Please tell us more about your problem. There are two types of Connected Launchpad shown here, do you have the 1294XL or the 123GXL? Does your power LED come on? Can you try connecting the device to a different PC's USB port?

One thing you could ask from the TI guys here on the forum is a binary file you could flash to the device which would just blink the LEDs. It would be a good place to start. (I use Linux and OpenOCD so my binary file might not work for you.)

    Good luck!

    David

  • I think the 1294XL is the only one called connected the 123xl i have also but thats working

The 1294xl board it is in this case

The leds stopped working after I deplugged the usb cable and are death after that

My usb port is ok my other normal 123xl lauchpads are ok

my communication with the thing is ok. I can see the proccesor is doing its thing

I can make a bin led blinking file and flash it myself noproblemo

    but no flashing anymore

I use CCS 5.4 , the latest LM flasher version and the wonderful windows7 on my macbook pro

I'm pretty sure its a hardware issue on my new 1294XL but because its a early march version

I only worries if I get or buy a new one the same thing may happen (so a hardware design failure)

and yes my power led is on

    Pieter

  • Ok, I am trying to understand the problem.

You can't turn on the LEDs labelled D1, D2, D3, and D4, yes?

But the LED labelled D0 POWER is on.

    That is the only problem?

  • Yes that's my only problem ... more precise  the leds where working also after a plug-unplug plug

but after the second time not anymore

I did not looked at the schematic but I think something with a power line towards the leds or the output(s)

    of the micro controller self

I don't want to spend to must time on this , only my concern is it could happen again

electronics normally breaks down the first week or after 15 years and most of the time when

    a power of on

    Pieter

  • Pieter,

Can you try running an unmodified blinky binary out of the TivaWare release for the Connect Launchpad and let us know the result?

    Thanks!

Hi Pieter, My connected launchpads got exposed to an high number of connect/disconnect/connect to test an issue of communication between them and presumably they shall be exposed again and again. DK-tm129 was exposed to a similar treatment and none ot these board stopped working. I am experienced and I wear a non antistatic cloth as all electronic people must know and I  manage board avoid contacting pin area in favour of ground exposed area.

So electronic can stop working if no ESD and not EM test compliant, but launchpad are well done this way and USB side is well covered by line suppression and is protected from external esd than on exposed pin. If you damaged processor I can suppose just a few port where you discharged some ESD can be damaged and is very odd you can burn out completely a processor than you destroyed a vital pin like reset or HIB.

This hardware is industrial grade and I suppose is exposed to a "burn in", it can last when electrolytic caps get worned.. Sorry no el caps there.... So it can last much longer or when data get weakened from aging.. this day if all is still ok you can reflash it. Also if made in China these are high quality manufactured and I think final quality checked too.

Instead, missed information on fault need be addressed, Please try answer these question:

    • Is  on your "wonderful (???? ) windows 7" ICDI present? please open hardware panel and see if ICDI is ok.
    • which error you see when you try download a new project
    • have you try'd jtag unbrick procedure?
