Tiva C custom PCB boards with AFE, split ground

Hello,

i'm designing PCB for TIVA TM4C123 uC with analog front end connected to ADC inputs (including ina and opa ic's series).

I can see in datasheet that gnda should be externally connected to gnd Figure 5-4. Power Architecture. In my project AFE and Tiva are supplied from one power source VDD. In my case is it nesesery to split ground to gnd and gnda and connect them in one point, or connect all components(divided into analog and digital blocks) to gnd?

Thanks for help

  • Hello MatthewFirst,

Since AFE and TIVA both are being powered by the same VDD supply, the noise due to current changes introduced on the VDD line may affect the AFE. Do make sure that the decap's are large enough to factor this.

From TIVA perspective the GNDA and GND need to be connected on the board with a good plane or a copper pour. The individual components can be connected to the same plane.

    Regards

    Amit
