TMS570LS1224 RTI & EPWM Synchronization

There is one way that you can try and see if it meets your requirements:

• The RTI module supports synchronization of its time-base with a Network Timing Unit (NTU). There are four NTU inputs. One of these NTU inputs, NTU[3], is wired to EXTCLKIN1.
• EXTCLKIN1 is multiplexed with GIOA[5], ePWM_1A and N2HET1_PIN_nDIS functions
• The input paths for these functions are broadcast to each of the modules. That is, the input from pin 14 (on the PGE package) or ball B5 (on the ZWT package) is connected to the GIO module, the N2HET1 module as well as the ePWM module.

You can drive a signal on ePWM1A and this can directly be used by the RTI to clock the free-running counter. No external connection is necessary.

One caveat with this method: you do need to output the ePWM1A signal onto the pin so that it gets routed back through the I/O cell. This may mean that you lose this pin from being able to connect it to anything else external.
