TM4C129 UART0

I'm using a Tiva™ TM4C129X Development Board for development.

I need to connect and test the RS232 interface UART0 (pin PA0 and PA1).

My question: Can I connect to the eval board using TTL voltages? If now, what is the best way to connect my PC to the board?

Hi Khaled,

You can test UART0 using ICDI interface with Tivaware example programs like uart_echo. If you want to test UART0 not through ICDI interface, I believe there is a jumper at the board you can set. See, about those jumpers at the users manual.

Hello Khaled,

No. The TM4C129 is not 5V tolerant. Doing so will damage the device. What you required to convert UART-0 for RS232 kind of cable is a converter IC.like SN65HVD3088

Hi Kel,

I dont understand what you mean by the ICDI interface.

I check the evaluation board schematics (http://www.ti.com/tool/dk-tm4c129x) and it seems that both PA0 and PA1 goes directly to the jumpers.

Hello Khaled

You can test UART from the DK-TM4C129 board by first removing the jumpers from J3 to isolate the U0TX and U0RX between TM4C129 and TM4C123. The TM4C123 is what works as ICDI. Since TM4C129 IO's are not 5V Tolerant you need to have level shifter/voltage converter. If you need to connect a RS232 cable to PC then you would need the transciever.
