How do I connect the Tiva C LaunchPad or any other microcontroller to my laptop wirelessly, without buying cc3200 or something like that?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200, CC3100

How do I  connect the Tiva C LaunchPad or any other microcontroller to my laptop wirelessly, without buying cc3200 or something like that ? I am hoping to make a product that senses temperature at a remote location and transmits it to my laptop or phone.

    Do you mean CC3200 Launchpad?

You are able to connect your Tiva C Launchpad through wifi using CC3100 boosterpack.

  • I don't realy understand, you want to conect a Tiva wirelessly without any other module?  You always need sometigh, even if it's just a simple 433Mhz transmiter.

To your phone you need bluetooth or wifi. With the laptop, and the phone if it suports being usb Host, you can use a simple RF module like CC110, nordic, or any simple 433Mhz transceiver or transmiter/receiver pair. You can use zigbee wich is the most used for wifi and bluetooth but there are simpler less expensive soluctions since you're alredy using Tiva like the HC-06 module.

Again, if you want to conect to your phone without any extra module to the phone, it needs to be bluetooth or wifi. The CC3100 seems a realy easy solution for the wifi method. It's a boosterpack so you can use it easily with your tiva

  • Hello Madhumita,

Tiva does not have a embedded WiFi, Bluetooth, or for that matter any wireless connectivity modules. As mentioned by Kel and Luis, you need a booster pack like CC3100.

Or you may want to look at the EVM for CC3200 which has embedded wireless connectivity

  • Thank you Luis, that was what I was asking! I need a suitable wi-fi module to connect to my laptop! For reasons I needn't go into, lets assume I dont have the cc3100/cc3200 option...Its more of an academic interest to learn about rf modules, though the cc3100/3200 offers a readymade solution !

  • To conect to your laptop i only know of zigbee and CC3100 and sincerely i think it's the cheapest one especialy since your using a Tiva board.
