TMDXRM57LHDK: RM57L Hercules Development Kit ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: RM57L843, HALCOGEN

I want to make something involving a lot of temperature sensors(around 15-30), GPS and GSM also. It may require controlling opening and closing of valves etc. Basically i'm making a fire extinguishing system. Should i use TMDXRM57LHDK: RM57L Hercules Development Kit ?

Or any other kit by TI which will fulfill my purpose. Please do reply.

  • Vasu,

Yes I think this part is a good fit, especially if your application is safety related.

I don't think we have any canned examples for GPS/GSM but hopefully you have some sort of module that we'd just talk to using a SPI or I2C interface - if that's the case then no problem.

For the temp sensors this part has an abundance of A/D converter inputs as well as timer captures - and also has multiple CAN/LIN ports in case the sensors are remote.

The above is true for almost all of the products in the Hercules line.  The RM57L843 is the newest product in this series with the latest in diagnostics but it is also top of the line.   You might check out a part in the RM48 or RM46 or even RM42 series if you are very price sensitive but you can certainly start with the RM57L843 and then target a lower device later once your application is stable.  The peripherals and even the pinouts have good compatibility across the entire product range and if you use HalCoGen to generate your initialization code and header files you will not have significant issues moving your code across the products either.

  • Thanks  a lot Mr. Seely for the information.

Can you tell me about the kind of coding that i would have to use with the Hercules kit. How different is it from coding used for avr / arm ?

Can you tell me if the MSP430 G2 kit would be enough for my purpose of using  LM35-CAZ temperature sensors  as the kit need not be that much expensive?

And can you suggest any module/ kit/ IC  by TI for me to use GPS & GSM ?
