TMS570 compiler

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HALCOGEN

Hi

I was trying to install CCS6 on windows XP and it tells me that it could cause an error on the OS and I looking to the CCS5 but Im not sure if the compiler is compatible with TMS570 MCUs... is there any problem or do I ignore the warning and continue the installation?

best regards

Mike

  • Hi Mike,

I wouldn't go this route if I were you - you want to be using the latest CCS for new development.

Some TMS570 products have been supported since CCSv4 to answer your question but there have been lots of issues resolved since then and new products in the TMS570 line don't always work as well w. the older CCS versions.

If you need XP for some reason then I don't know what to say.  If it's just that you need to run CCS on an older machine, you might consider the Linux version of CCS running a light weight window manager on the older machine; but using CCSv6.   The main downside of this is that HalCoGen doesn't work cleanly in Linux.  But that's probably an easier problem to work around than what you might run into w. the older CCS and Win XP for new work.

  • the problem is exactly what you said. I have an old computer (very old one) and if I install win7 to it... it might not run properly... and the one I have with win7.... the monitor and the mouse dont work anymore...

I saw that the CCS6 is compatible with XP but for some diabolic reason it says it could create a big system error...

  • Hi Miguel,

If it's very very old it may not work well with the eclipse based CCS's anyway.  How much memory do you have.  I'm sure there is an official number for a min. requirement somewhere but if it's less than 2 Gigs of RAM it may not be worth your effort.  Sorry to hear about your new PC breaking down.

  • Actually I changed to mac because of that problem... i will try installing the CCS6 on the mac and see how it works...
