Instaspin BLDC Lab download link?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INSTASPIN-BLDC, CONTROLSUITE, TMDSCNCD28035ISO, DRV8301, MOTORWARE, TMS570LS3137

Hi all.

I have a DRV8301-HC development kit and haven't used it much.

I wanted to try and run the motor with the kit, but I'm having the hardest time downloading the Instaspin BLDC Lab.
Am I misunderstanding something here? Do i need to buy the software? I cant seem to find any download link to it that work (it only gives me a PDF with instructions).

Regards, Gunnar.

  • The InstaSPIN-BLDC Lab document downloads fine for me

It uses the GUI in controlSUITE for the experiments.

    C:\ti\controlSUITE\development_kits\DRV830x-HC-C2-KIT_v105\~GUI

you need to make sure your TMDSCNCD28035ISO is programmed with InstaSPIN-BLDC_GUI_DRV8301_v104.out and then run the v104.exe

Once you start your own project you should use the embedded project and documentation from

    C:\ti\controlSUITE\development_kits\DRV830x-HC-C2-KIT_v105\InstaSPIN_BLDC

BTW - if you are evaluating a Piccolo device anyways, I can't recommend strongly enough evaluating the InstaSPIN-FOC and/or InstaSPIN-MOTION solutions. They are superior in every way to InstaSPIN-BLDC.  You can evaluate on your DRV8301 Rev D EVM with an InstaSPIN-F or  -M enabled controlCARD. I'd recommend the TMDSCNCD28069MISO as the superset version to experiment with.

  • Thanks for your swift answer.

I found out I wasn't reading the instructions carefully enough.

But now i've run into another problem. When i'm using CCS to try and configure my control card, the configuration doesn't show up in the list under 'Texas Instruments XDS100v1 USB Emulator'.

The control card im using is not the Piccollo card but the TMS570LS, with a Hercules Microcontroller.

Do I need to download the configuration from somewhere? Ive already updated to the (I think) latest versions of software.

    Regards,
    Gunnar.

  • let me move this over to the TMS570 forum for support

  • Hi Gunnar:

The Hercules control card uses the XDS100V2 USB emulator not the v1. This should solve the primary issue at hand. Also, below are some links to the two control cards we offer since I am not certain which one you are using. On these pages you will find a downloadable zip file with various Motorware projects in it.

    TMS570LS31xx: http://www.ti.com/tool/tmdx570ls31cncd

    TMS570LS12xx: http://www.ti.com/tool/tmdx570ls12cncd

    Hope this helps!

  • Thanks Chuck.

I tried various settings and found the TMS570LS3137 under the v2 USB emulator. However, Im not able to connect with the card and burn a program into the flash. I made a seperate thread about this under :http://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/hercules/f/312/t/368428.aspx

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards, Gunnar

  • Hi Gunnar,

I've replied to you other post/thread. If the issue in this thread is resolved, is it OK to close this one so we don't have 2 threads on similar topics? Note that I've also copied one of our motor control experts on your other thread as well so that he may directly answer your questions if needed.

As I stated in the other thread, I understand that you are just getting going with the kit and this can be difficult sometimes at first so let us know how we may help and we'll get you running as quickly as we can.
