MibADC Timing Specifications

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: RM46L430, HALCOGEN

Hi,

Regarding RM46L430 ADC conversion time, the "Table 5-21. MMibADC Timing Specifications"
mentions only about the Minimum conversion time and it is also mentioned that these
parameters are dependent on many factors.

What could be the MAX values, our customer would like to calculate the worst case
conversion times and it is not possible to calculate with the current datasheet parameters.

Just in case if possible could you please let us know what could be the Max values of MibADC Timings.

Regards
Prad

  • Hi Prad,

The max values aren't really relevant in this case,  in the sense of a datasheet parameter.   The min values are important because if you configure the ADC to run faster than these values you will not necessarily have proper operation or more likely you won't get performance of other parameters like error that meet their datasheet specs.

Your customer can of course configure the ADC to run slower than the MIn -- for example by increasing the sample time.  In some cases this is actually needed if they are driving a channel w. a high source impedance and more time is required for the channel to settle before starting the conversion.   This timing is controlled digitally though so it's based on software settings of the ADC registers.  For this you can easily compute the timing and I believe even HalCoGen does this for you.

  • Hi Anthony,

Thank you so much for the information. I understood the concept.

Just to mention, some MCU's like MSP430, the MIN and MAX values were
    provided in the datasheet.

Looking into the Hercules MCU (TMS570,RM series), I assume that all the
datasheets basically mentions only the MIN values of ADC.
