TM4C1290 status?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TM4C123GH6PM

Hello TI,

Please resolve an important ambiguity:  In the recently published "TM4C Product Selector" (link http://www.ti.com/lit/sg/spmt285d/spmt285d.pdf), the TM4C1290 is not present, while it is listed as "ACTIVE" in the web-based selector (link http://www.ti.com/lsds/ti/microcontrollers_16-bit_32-bit/c2000_performance/control_automation/tm4c12x/products.page#p1806=120).  What's up here?  It's entirely too reminiscent to the "web snafu" explained here: http://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/tiva_arm/f/908/t/321693.aspx

I believe the 1290 is especially important, as it bridges the '123 and '129 families by bring an increase in RAM and MHz to the low-end '123 series.  Actually, it would be good to offer a reduced (512K) Flash version of the '1290 at reduced cost to retain additional customers with designs that have out grown the '123-series.

Please enlighten us!  Thank you!

Regards,

Dave

So true - and so perceptive.  (as most of your writings are)

Might that , "bridge feature" you identify have been noted by (officials) - and thus have forced such plight upon hapless 1290?

I may have some "inside info" I can share (after running thru legal.)   Should you enable "conversations" - such would be a more appropriate vehicle for passage...

[edit 12:05 CST] ask and ye shall be rewarded - hearsay/detail passed via conversation...

  • i actually would like to see a tiva like the tm4c123gh6pm in terms of peripherals but the 120Mhz clock and a DMA like the tm4c1294

  • Hi Luis,

I fully agree that a pin compatible upgrade to the '123 would be the obvious way to go.  Instead, the '129 introduces two new packages, and diabolically avoids any package-compatibility -  never mind pin-compatibility.  Notably, the 'competitors" don't seem to find it too challenging to provide multi-generational pin compatibility.  Sigh...

  • Hello Dave,

I would go back to the "source" of the product selection guide to see if it can be updated to reflect the actual orderables? Thanks to get it to our notice,

    Regards

    Amit

Not since, "bamboozled" flowed from the forum pen of BP101 (multiple times) has such unkind word-smithery invaded!

Your multi-generational "pin compatibility" mention avoids (perhaps) a bigger horror - the "kill-off" of an entire generation!  (i.e. "We are gathered together to mourn the loss of beloved M3...")  Suspect "that culling" better earns your commentary...

  • Hello Amit,

    Thank you for your response.

It sounds as though you are affirming that the TM4C1290 (TQFP & BGA) will continue to be part of the series?  Just to be completely clear, can you please confirm that?  It would be very helpful as I will be moving on the the layout phase of the project and I don't want to be "looking over my shoulder"...

Thank you for all you do here on the forum!

    Regards,

    Dave

  • Hello SourceTwo,

The parts are orderable on Digikey and so they will be in the series.
