Hello,

I have been using TI's launchpads (tiva, cc3200) with CCS for two years. I want to build up a custom board with my own hardware peripherals because launchpads are a little big for my application. However I have no clue about where to begin; how to load the program, debug or what kind of environment should I use . Is there any document that tells the story from beginning?

Hello Huseyin

The first step is to identify the IDE (IAR, CCS, Keil) and the hardware debugger that come along with each. Some of the hardware debugger are specific to the IDE and some are more generic. I have used IAR with Segger J-Link and CCS with XDS100v2. Both of them are low cost debuggers. However there may be licensing cost for the full IDE. Windowa is preferred choice on the IDE but some of them work on Linux as well.

Thank you for your reply. I think I stick with CCS and Windows for now. It has been very helpful.

Hello Huseyin,

Please do have a look at other vendors. There are features that some third party vendors may have in their IDE's that may be particularly useful.

Hi Amit,

Actually I am very comfortable with CCS, I tried Keil however didn't like much. debugging features of the CCS are sufficient for now. Just to be sure; as I understood I will buy the emulator (XDS100v2 as you mentioned before) and connect it to microcontroller then will be good to go right?

Hello Huseyin,

That is correct. But please be sure that the XDS100v2 header pin out matches that of the JTAG header on the custom board you plan.
