How can one power the launchpad after its programming is completed?

Dan,

The RM42 launchpad is powered from the PC's USB port. You can leave this connection ON even after the programming is done and assert PORRST (hit the button) once the debugger is disconnected.

Sorry, I should have made more question more clear. How can one power the board independent of a PC connection via a USB port?

Hi Daniel,

You can power the board by connecting 5V to the left of the fuse F1. You will need to tack on a wire and then connect it to a 5V supply.

Alternative you can use the usb connector itself, without pc, and plug it into a power adapter that has a usb connector

or make your own cable with the right USB connector that fits in the launchpad's usb port.

(if you want to power it from battery, you can have a look at the ti / element14 fuel tank boosterpack. That pack has a rechargeable battery. As an added bonus you can use your launchpad to query the battery status)
