Number of breakpoints in ccs5.5.5.0

Hi Frnds

i'm using ccs 5.5.0. In this when number of breakpoints become greater than 5 then debugger(srellaris ICDI) stop working. is there any way to increase this limit.

  • Hi,

These are hardware breakpoints, and the maximum number should be 6, AFAIK.

But you can disable some of them after you have checked the right operation at that point of and re-position in new places. Try also to right-click at the position and see if you are allowed to insert software breakpoints - some toolchains allow that, others may not. Other toolchains allows only two breakpoints.

  • Hello All,

It is indeed 6 Hardware breakpoints for TM4C as well. Segger J-link does have a mechanism to set a larger number of breakpoints using SRAM, but then it is a license cost as well

Maybe it is a huge cost, since you need also the tools, not only the device. Not sure what about XDS100?

I remember XDS100 is free ccs and can be XDS200 too, on XDS510 XDS560 you have to add tool, licence of tool and CCS.

XDS200 again I resemble it can be faster than ICDI but XDS100 is slower so having a slower interface to gain software break point IMHO require at almost XDS200.

Beware - the carpenter who arrives w/only aged (likely borrowed) hammer...

And beware of carpenter that arrive with China ultra automatic explosive hammer too ;)

Sometimes old hammer in the expert hand of old carpenter do the job better. I like too much to have but don't feel the need of XDS560, just a more user friendly and reliable tools beffore connecting automatic turret to blow out my code ;)

But would not that, "old carpenter's, expert hand, gripping Segger's J-Link" do even a better job - faster - and w/more precision?  Is that not - should that not - be the key goal?  (Ans: Certainement mon ami...)

We were long taught, "Beg, borrow, steal" the best tools!  In short time - they (most likely) will pay for themselves.

Hi CB!, this can be really ipossible to solve, sometimes the old 149US$ LOGIC saleae perform better than Agilent ultrafast ultraprecise multichannel multimode analyzer on small simple communication trouble.

Why? First Saleae is forever in my laptop bag, it can serve word of low speed signals and on old system I am analysing it rock. On industrial bus pc driven and FPGA domain it lose from start and I don't think never the huge one of low cost so called LA can do the job of real LA.

Again on my first years of uP development I just owned a slow scope from analog era and some unreachable instrument needed to be emulated and that time was not so simple. No CAD for PCB no low cost services so we learned how to do same way without them.

This is same now, I don't need XDS but It can help me a lot .. Before to have fastest automatic multiburn turret to fire my code I NEED have a reliable and confortable instrument to drive multiturret missiles to target!!! Otherwise missile can blast me ;)

Yes Roberto - points you raise are valid - yet none dilute the truth of quote.  (above)
