Unable to start debug for TM4C123GXL using CCS-5.4

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM1808

Hi,

I never had any problem in lauching Debug session using CCS for all TI MCU (OMAP, AM1808, AM335x, LM3S, ...)

But this time, using CCS-5.4 for TM4X123GXL Lauch Pad,

* compile :  no problem in compiling sample project "project0" as in the demo video

* CCXML : no error

But, click DEBUG button, it goes FOREVER, never finish ?!?!

I'm using Win-7 while the demo video using Win-XP. Does it matter ?

Thanks,

~Duy-Ky

  • Hello Duy-Ky,

Problems come when we least expect it. Can you do the following two things

    1. Attach the CCS Project as a zip so that we can check it on CCS5.5 and CCS6.0 to see it is a version issue or not

    2. Send a snapshot of the CCS 5.4

I am using CCS 5.5 on a Win-7 machine and I have never run into any such issue. I might even suggest updating the tool chain version to 6.0

    Regards

    Amit

  • Dear Amit,

    You scare it away ;-0

Per you hint, I tried with 5.5 and found it work

I went back to 5.4, and it ... work too.

It's weird, I don't know why it didn't work for me before even it took me hours to struggling the problem.

The reason I first started with 5.4 as it came with the package for the Tm4X123GXL Launch Pad

Thanks so so much for your prompt and outstanding support. You're awesome, Amit

    Best Wishes,

    ~Duy-Ky

  • Hello Duy-Ky,

Even though we ship CCS 5.4, the newer versions are available and tested for the TI devices. So you can upgrade to the new versions.

  • Hi Amit,

Now I know why I was not able to launch the debug session and all sudden it works fine.

It is due to background job of CCS running "behind my back".

This feature is a very bad idea and the root cause of what you called "Problems come when we least expect it"

Everything should be fully under user control, so s/he knows exactly what going on and there's no such "unexpected situation", the root cause of all kind of frustration!

I found CCS-5.5 not helpful to me as it allows to build only, not re-build. Both give the same binary, but "build" won't clear "red" mark due to previous error, while "re-build" clears red mark once it find no error. It really bothers me when seeing "red mark" while everything is running fine! That's why I keep using CCS-5.4 even I have 5.5 installed!

I've been with TI for years and you're the most responsive TI guy I've ever found.

Thank so much for your very great support, Amit

    Best wishes

  • Hello Duy-Ky

You can turn off the Auto-Update Feature in CCS to disable "behind my back". I always do so when I install CCS on any machine. User gets the control...

  • Hi Amit,

Under "Preference - Install/Update", I found "auto Update UNCHECKED
, so it must be something else, Amit

    Thanks,

    ~Duy-Ky

  • Hello Duy-Ky,

Never crossed that even after selecting no update, it does do that.

Might I suggest CCS Forum as the place to put the next post. They would be able to help.

    Regards
