Hercules MCUs with sensorless FOC to control AC induction machine?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MOTORWARE, INSTASPIN-BLDC

I am working on a project developing a sensorless FOC motor controller on an AC Induction Machine (ACIM), where safety is an important weighting factor. I am considering a MCU from the Hercules family, for example, RM48, RM46 or TMS570. Is there any dedicated Motor control software, like InstaSPIN-FOC, to implement the sensorless FOC on the ACIM with Hercules MCUs?.

From the following link it seems the InstaSPIN-FOC is with Piccolo mocrocontrollers.

Thank you very much and looking forward to hearing from you!

  • Hi Huibin,

If you click on this link: http://www.ti.com/lsds/ti/microcontrollers_16-bit_32-bit/c2000_performance/safety/rm/tools_software.page#kits
there are a few motor control kits for Hercules.

If you click on one of the kits, it will take you to a 'tool folder' and there you can find 'motorware' for Hercules.
This includes various control algorithms. I don't think it includes the 'really good' instaspin because this is IP that needs some protection / licensing. If you want to get the accurate story for instaspin & hercules you can post the question to the instaspin forum http://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/c2000/f/902.
  • Hi, Anthony,

    Thanks for prompt reply!

I followed the links (e.g. Motor Control Kits, DRV8301-RM48-KIT and DRV8301-RM46-KIT). Then the descriptions show they are motor control evaluation kits for "spinning three phase brushless DC motors and PMSM motors with examples of both sensorless Field Oriented / Vector Control (FOC) and TI’s InstaSPIN-BLDC sensorless BLDC solution." There is some difference with FOC for the control on the PMSM and AC induction machine, so I am not sure whether these two kits can be used to control AC induction machines.

    Best regards,
