Help in running usb_dev_keyboard example

It is device example that means my board acts like a device. I don't know the procedure to run it or configure the hardware according to it So, if you can help me out then it would be really great. Right now I plugged my board through the debug port to the host(laptop). and running the code in the debug mode.

I just found out that I was looking in a wrong folder. I have ek-tm4c123gxl board....But I need to know to the configuration changes aur modification i have to do to port dk-tm4c123 board usb_dev_keyboard example in ek-tm4c123gxl board. Also I need to know the hardware setup.

Hello Sachin,

To interface a USB Keyboard you would need the following things

1. A USB cable with micro connector A and a Female recptacle
2. An output device. What do you plan the output to be printed on
3. Since the EK-TM4C123 does not power the external device, you would need a TPS switch which is controlled by the Micro and is able to check for Fault. How do you intend to do that?

In usb_dev_keyboard what changes do I have to make to run it on EK-TM4C123GXL and for the output I will use serial comm so I don't think I have to connect any external device to the board. One more thing if you can help I want to know setup related issue in case of usb_host_keyboard also..

Hello Sachin,

Please clarify which one you plan to use. The track is changing too often with every post. In dev mode TM4C is the input device to a system and in host mode TM4C connects to a input device.

Yes, I know that both are very different to each other but my project involves both at some stage so I just need to know the setup configuration for both and the modification I have to bought in dk-tm4c usb_keyboard example to run it on EK-TM4C123GXL board.

Then why not use the DK-TM4C123 as the project board? If you wish to still insist on EK-TM4C123 then I would suggest reading the schematics of the DK and EK, prepare the changes and run the list of changes in the forum.

For the EK, you would need to find out how the EK is going to be a Keyboard, may be look at some matrix keyboard, develop the scanning algo to detect key press and pass it to the PC via USB.

In the readme of usb_dev_keyboard example, it is mentioned that it can detect the capslock on/off button and output it on the display but I am not getting any result. In the case of board(device) , my keyboard should be attached to the PC(host) and it should display when I press caps key.
But it is not.

Did you change the pin assignments for the switches? I think you are not referring to the schematics for SW changes.

Yes, I have changed it but still not working, Is there any other change that I have to bought on the software side and Is there any hardware setup required beyond connecting my board to the PC.

Thanks for the help and I will debug but before that I want to know whether my setup is right. I connected a usb cable to the board debug port to connect with host and keyboard is connected to the host side, that's it.

The Device side USB connector needs to be connected to the PC to emulate a Keyboard

The Debug side USB connector is for JTAG and COM Debug Ports

Hello Sachin,

No. You can connect a second USB cable to the device port while the first one remains connected on the Debug port. That way you can debug the code as well.

Hi ,

I loaded the bulk example in my ek-TMC123GXL device and modified the vendor id and product id in usb_skeleton.c

On loading the driver on Linux, I am getting my device file in /dev and when I am issuing the write command to the device file in /dev my board respond with the led blink as specified in the firmware code but on reading I am not getting anything and even the terminal stuck at that point. Help me to solve the issue.

I tried writing and reading through echo/cat as well as through a user space application.
