Differences between RM46L840PGET and TMS570LS1227 ?

As we have used it in an other project, we plan to use the RM46 for a railway application.
For what reason is the TMS570 dedicated to transportation applications and RM46 for industrial applications?
Apart frequency and flexray, they look very similar ...

  • Hi Bruno,

You brought it to the point, these MCU's are very similar.

There are a few more differences:

    • RM46 has USB, TMS570 doesn't
    • Temperature specifications are different
      • TMS570 125C ambient
      • RM4x 105C ambient
    • The CPU endianness!
      • TMS570 is Big Endian 32
      • RM4x is Little Endian

Please note that above list may not be complete, but this is what came into my mind.

    Best Regards,
    Christian

  • Hi Christian,

    Thanks you for this answer.
I'm very surprised about the endianness: as both use the same core, i thought naively that endianness was the same.
Nevertheless, it's not a big issue.
Are the product longevities of these MCU similar?

    Best regards,
    Bruno.
  • Hi Bruno,

Unfortunately I can't give you an official answer to the longevity of specific product, but as you inferred before: "they look very similar ..."
For an official answer you should contact your local TI sales representative / distributor.

    Best Regards,
    Christian
  • I have customized the search criteria to only show the RM46x and LS12x parts in PGE package.
    http://www.ti.com/lsds/ti/microcontrollers_16-bit_32-bit/c2000_performance/safety/products.page#o7=Hercules RM;Hercules TMS570&p2132=64&p1227=1280;1280&p2954=LQFP

You can review the columns to see differences other than those listed by Christian. The main point is the higher performance on the RM46x MCUs (160MHz on LS1227 versus up to 220MHz on RM46).
