Can we use EVK TM4C1294 to program tm4c1230d5pm?

Hi, Pls help us trouble shoot the problem. We were using the Tiva TM4C123GXL EVK launchpad for programming the Tiva microcontroller that we will be using in our EMERGENCY VEHICLE PRIORITY SYSTEM project. Right now we were writing software in TM4C1230D5PM, later after the actual hardware gets developed we will be porting to TM4C1230H6PM. On saturday we were able to download the software to the controller through the launchpad, but on monday morning when we tried loading, we are facing some issues. It is giving an error message " Error connecting to target" We tried programming in a different controller, yet the problem remained same. We tried programming from a different PC, yet the problem remained same. Pls help us out. The PC is detecting the programmer, but while programming it is giving this error.. We have only one launchpad. Recently, in the Tiva training we have received TM4C1294 EVK, can we use this to program TM4C1230D5PM controller???? If yes pls tell us how? Because we need to complete our software by next month before the hardware arrives and it will time consuming for procuring new launchpads... I was trying to contact Meghana, but since she is out of station, pls give us the alternate person who will support us.. This is urgent..

Hello Rekha,

Yes, you can use the EK-TM4C1294 as a debugger for another Tiva device. On the EK-TM4C1294 there are a series of header pins just above the TI logo. The right side can be used to wire another Tiva devices. Do make sure that the series resistor on the left side of header pins are removed.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I tried today removing jumper and wiring the board on the jumper mentioned. But still the same error is coming. "Error connecting to Target" What could be the problem. Same error was coming even with the EK TM4C123GXL Launchpad

Hello Rekha

Looks like the correct pins have been used and resistor removed. I got a snapshot as well from my setup.

NOTE that I have RST_N connected as well. Also do note the order of signals. TDI from EK-TM4C129 has to be connected to TDI of your board.

With the EK-TM4C123GXL launchpad I used to use only these four pins and ground pin. TCK,TMS, TDO, TDI and ground pin. Reset pin option not given in the board....

Will there be any thing to be done in the software???

How do I check whether the EVK is functoning without connecting to my board

TMS, TCK, TDI, TDO and GND wires are correctly connected to my board... pls tell what to do... I tried using LMflash programmer also to see if I can unlock but is failing to do so.. I am not able to figure out what has happened...

Hi,
I used rich formatting but still it is not getting attached. I copied and pasted. It got pasted but it is not showing after postin.

Anyway Thanks. We could find out that the debuggers are fine. We are able to load with both the EVKs now. We tried loading
today on one more board. And it is working in that board. We can continue with our f/w development with this board. Anyway, we are not knowing still how in two boards the programming portion has gone bad!!! We need to find out even this because we cant scrap one board for this reason.

Pls tell us what we need to take care in our current design. Since the new design schematic is in progress and we can
take care of design considerations now.
