Do I need all safeTI compliance packages?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HALCOGEN, TMS570LS0432, SAFETI-HERCULES-DIAG-LIB-CSP, SAFETI-HALCOGEN-CSP

I'm about to design modules (using TMS570LS0432) that are IEC61508 SIL2 compliant. I will use Code Composer Studio, HalCoGen and SafeTI diagnostics library.

I'm looking into the budget and wonder, do I really need all the Complicance Support Packages?

SAFETI-HERCULES-DIAG-LIB-CSP 25000USD

SAFETI-HALCOGEN-CSP 25000USD

HERCULES_SAFETI_CQKIT 25000USD

Pricing found when trying to request from webpage. That sums up to 75000USD(!), This  is not feasible for small projects. How do you guys do?

  • Henrik,

Good question to ask and eager to see what the community says.

  • Hi,

I wonder just the same. Now, one year later, is there any answer to this question?
  • First of all nobody needs to buy any of our CSP's, but please let me explain:

There are other ways using in a "safety project" a compiler than to do a tool qualification. What's required is described in IEC 61508-3 sections 7.4.4.x.
However, if a tool qualification is required in your project our CQ Kit provides adequate support to perform this in a cost optimized way. Another option could be pre-certified ARM compilers like they are available from IAR, ARM/Keil and Greenhills.

Both the SafeTI Diagnostic Library and the Output of HALCoGen are plain C code. You can go and use our code and treat it like your own. In that case you have to generate all the paperwork and test cases by your own. This can be a cost optimized way, if you are only using a small subset of the functionality the Diagnostic Library and HALCoGen do provide. If you are using a lot of the stuff what is in their our CSP's might be the cheaper option.

Please also have a look into:

These are just my few cents and my personal point of view, please let me know if you have a different perspective.

  • Thanks for the quick and detailed answer. You are right, especially with the diagnostic library it might be the cost effective way.

But I am still unsure about if the prices sum up. Since it is always the same price for the three CSPs, do I have to pay 25.000$ each or only once for all?
  • Mr. Bronse,

I have sent you a friend request so we can discuss this offline.
