TM4C123G and Putty

I am trying to connect my TM4C123G board with putty so I can process some simple test commands. Whenever I enter any symbol into putty all it gives me is a grey box instead of the symbol and I cannot get to communicate with the board. Any suggestions?

Do you get the same output at Putty with known example programs like "uart_echo"?

Those grey boxes may signal you've a baud-rate, and/or parity mismatch - have you double checked your settings - both @ PC Side and at your MCU board?

Your description, "Whenever I enter any symbol into putty..." is unclear - are you saying that when you "send" from the MCU board it is only received by Putty as a grey box? (that's my interpretation of most likely - and the suggestion I've offered links to that...)

Both settings are the same. What I mean is when I type directly into Putty I get the grey box and cannot see what I type in and get no response from the board.

I'm no Putty expert - but (usually) w/in most PC terminal programs - such "boxes" indicate an active 8th bit. (msbit) Such characters are (usually) not displayable - thus the grey box. Does Putty allow you to specify 7-bit ASCII? (that should "cure" grey box woes...)

While poster Markel often steers to UART_Echo - your PC has a similar mode. It is possible to have the PC Terminal Program remain "blind" to your keyboard input - or to display it - this may require some experimentation on your part.
