After ICDI firmware update Tiva c series not detecting the target device

Through LM Flasher build no 1613 i tried to update the firmware of ICDI, after sucsessfull update it does not recognise the target device. please suggest me what could have gone worng during update. Is there anyway to get back the last working firmware.

  • Hello Rajesh,

Why did you have to do a ICDI firmware upgrade. Intent precedes the Actions. There is no way you can get the working firmware back as the Firmware upgrade does not copy the last firmware.

Also what does the Windows Device Manage show?

    Hi Amit,

Of course you make great sense (If it ain't broke - don't fix it!) yet users are curious - and often such "upgrades" improve performance while fixing bugs.  Thus - I believe that some case may be made - for user's "upgrade" actions.

Further - if such ICDI Upgrade may (predictably) result in "User Lockout" - should not (some) precaution be issued prior to the user's pressing the "Upgrade" button?

It would seem that both vendor & curious user both must share blame in this misfortune...

  • Hello cb1,

I have used ICDI firmware upgrade without issues so far. In fact I just did one to double check. Could there be something more than just a button click. I do agree that giving out such features has a risk.

This can happen, but I try'd many times none failed...

In case of failure I am using same JTAG pattern as TI to have compatibility, so is not a problem erase flash or direct reflash ICDI from ICDI too.

But experiment where all positive, erasing flash upgrade it, launching upgrade work too, mystery is forever not to be on place to see what really happen.

  • Hello Amith,

Thanks for your reply, Just wanted to improve the performance of my Tiva lunch pad,  i did the update through LM Flasher, Now in the Device Manager doesnt show anything, Is therany way to get back or somehow can we make this board reusable.

Let the record show that cb1 owns the lunch-pad "copyright" - which far better describes a "stripped-down" CAN, UART (transceiver-free), always (delightful) MCU-MCU "default" connections (via 0-ohm Rs) and the deliberate avoidance of any "logical signal header grouping" of UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, and any 8 bit port!

Resulting wiring - to harvest needed power and peripheral signals (should  they be available - i.e. 8 bit parallel port) give famed, "Ratz Nest" a bad name...  More logical, caring/convenient "edge-connector grouping by peripheral" might far better justify "launch" description - most agree.

Board's low cost, compactness has value - yet marketing's "name" wreaks of over-reach.   "Econo-board" has a "nice ring" - and provides a truer desciption of a board which fails to (properly) segregate peripheral port signals - instead dumping the MCU pinouts to their nearest board header - yielding a, "use nightmare" (hardly a "launch") - don't you agree?

  • Hello Rajesh,
Often one can push reset button very quickly click on Program thereby fooling the DAP into submission. Might take several launch pad resets and or Hardware resets and or USB cable unplugs between attempts to get Flash to Program. At least when USB is the LM- Flash transport have noticed same issue you seem to be describing. At times with TM4C1294XL launch pad the user registers also get erased and the factory assigned Ethernet MAC address reverts to FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF.

  • Hello Rajesh,

You may want to replace the Debug TM4C123 but then waiting for the same and getting it soldered down, may cost you more time then another LaunchPad (not a sales pitch).
