I am lookng for TMS 570 techncial presentation materials regarding as below.

-  How to set Function setting(resisters) of MCU .

-  Function details, how does it work  MCU functional safety and directions.

-  CPU board debug and designs

I checked this link but not found it.

  • Hi Mitsu,

Your questions seem very high level and I'm not really certain what you are looking for. Below are some links to some documentation and training material that might help. In addition, I've forwarded your post to one of our safety experts who might be able to answer additional questions about specific topics.

Links to a functional safety overview material:
    www.ti.com/.../index.html

Link to introduction to Hercules family and Functional Safety:
    www.ti.com/.../getting-started.page

Safety Manual for the TMS570LS3137 device:
    www.ti.com/.../spnu511

Note that there is also a Safety Report and a Safety Analysis report that goes in to detail about evidence of support of safety claims but these reports are available only through NDA since they contain proprietary/non-public information.

Additional material on Software development for functional safety:
    www.ti.com/.../spry180

Link to the Videos page showing a large number of available Videos for training purposes.
    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Videos

In short, there is quite a bit of information available on the TI.com website related to the Hercules product family. The Hercules family of MCUs are "normal" microcontrollers with features that are designed to enhance the ability of a system to meet ISO61508, IEC26262 and many other Functional Safety standards. Note that, by normal, I mean that they still need to be programmed and utilized in accordance with the provided documentation and industry standards to which the end application (system) is being designed. As stated, the end goal of the Hercules product line is to make it easier to design, develop and certify a functional safety application.
  • Thank you very much for your reply, I am looking for very detail techncial presenation which discribed internal register's function and how to use as same as user guide . Sunch a kind of detail presentation material , I am looking for. Initially I don't want to read your whole user's manuals.
    Thank you.
    Mitsu.
  • How Can I get Traning materials as below?
    "HerculesTM Training"
"3 Day Training Class: Safety Critical Design and Programming with ARM® CortexTM-R4F based Hercules MCUs"
Actually I want to get TMS570 related only but......
    Thank you.

  • Hello Mitsu,

It sounds like you are trying to learn quickly about the TMS570 hercules family of devices. The best way to do this is to use the available onine videos. Unfortunately, the 3-Day training material is not available on the web site.

There are some good high level videos at the bottom of this web page:
    www.ti.com/.../overview.page;HQS=tms570

I think I gave this link before as well, but there are a lot of videos on this page that provide overview information and training on how to use specific modules on the device (similar to training provided in the 3-day training) under the "Hercules Safety MCU Training Videos" heading:
    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Videos

The 1-Day training material is located int he TMS570 Wiki page. There are 2 versions of the training. The first and most recent is provided with examples/labs based on the TMS570LS0432/RM42 launchpad and the second is based on the TMS570LS3137 USB development kit.
    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Category:TMS570

I would also suggest you have a look at the getting started section of the Wiki located here:
    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Category:TMS570

Specifically, the document located here processors.wiki.ti.com/.../TMS570LS_Getting_Started.pdf steps through a startup sequence with details on register initializations.

I certainly understand your reluctance to open the TRM, but the Hercules devices have a lot of features which requires a very detailed TRM. Also, even with the detailed TRM, there are a lot of use cases specific scenarios that require explanation and further details especially when consideration is given to high degrees of functional safety requirements. For this we have the additional documentation and guides such as the Safety Manual and Application notes. When the Safety Manual recommendations are followed, the Safety Reports and Safety Analysis Reports are used by customers to help demonstrate and make their case to the safety certification organizations such as TUEV SUD, Exida, etc.

In general, my message is that it is possible to get a very basic understanding of the Hercules devices from the training presentations, but it is the sum of all of the collateral and development of a general understanding of Functional Safety and the Functional Safety standard that really drive an appreciation for the Hercules devices and all of the supporting documentation that TI provides.

Another suggestion might be to discuss the possibility of setting up a training session in your local area with the TI Office or TI representative that you work with. Often, if you work with a distributor, they may be able to arrange other area companies to join the training as well and provide a good case for setting up training.

Finally, please continue to use the E2E forum for your questions. Generally speaking we are very willing to help you learn through your experimentation with the devices and offer advice and guidance when you come across any trouble or misunderstandings.
  • Hi,Chuck, thank you very much for your detail and clear messeges.

Yes, finding the way of quick understanding for development.

I am going to see all your suggested materials and videos.

    Thak you !

    Mitsu.

  • Hello Mitsu,

A good way to get going is to run through some of the SW examples like the "Blinky" project and the safety demo code to see how things are setup and done. Also you can go through the demos in the 1-Day training to get some step by step instruction on using Halcogen, importing the Halcogen project into CCS, building a project and running the project. Once you have that, use the E2E to ask specific questions regarding modules you need to use for your application. We are here to help and can help you learn as you go!
  • OK, Chunk, thank you very much for your help. Yes I will use this E2E, this is good tool.

    Mitsu.
