How to Use Instrumentation Trace Module to Debug on TM4129DNCPDT

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TM4C129DNCPDT, SEGGER

Hi,

I am using TM4C129DNCPDT and facing some issues. I want to debug and keep trace on some variables and also the interrupts coming while run. I am using CCS as my developement and debug enviornment. I have heard of ITM that it is an application driven trace source that provides a high level software view of what is happening on the device. ITM enables features such as: Statistical Profiling, Variable Tracing and Interrupt Profiling. I tried to see it it is supported for TM4C129DNCPDT, i found that it has support for ITM(Instrumentation Trace Macrocell). Is it the same? If yes, can anybody help me for how to use i while debugging. I am using XDS200 usb emulator as a debugger.

Thanks in Advance.

Regards,

Shrikant

  • Hello Shrikant,

I think CCS does not have the Trace for Cortex M4F devices with XDS2xx. You may want to check on the Code Composer Forum.

  • If you're willing to expand your use from CCS to IAR - and acquire a J-Link (pod) -  much of that you seek becomes enabled.

If interested - visit to Segger's site further details.

IAR under J-Link well enables SWO which provides a reduced cost/size trace while avoiding the cost & signal demands of full-scale trace...

  • Hello cb1

J-Link and I-Jet are different (sorry for my ignorance) as someone did ask me about I-Jet Trace. May you please enlighten this vendor rep!!!

  • Hi Amit,

Staff here are evaluating I-Jet for our small firm's upgrade. Rather than my (incomplete) report - may this wait till their return (late today)?

There are multiple grades of "J-Link & beyond" - and substantial differences in price.

Real (full) trace does seem to demand a major connector & board dedication to that, "trace process." Yet - with that commitment comes greatly enhanced insights into, "where the MCU's been - what its done - & when!" This does come at a great financial and board-size cost - as each case proves different (as you well know) forming a general usage rule is beyond this reporter's pay grade.

Poster Robert may "know I-Jet" cold - but I will respond (later) in his absence...
