LCD panel selection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TM4C129XNCZAD

hello,

We are working on a product with LCD using TM4C129XNCZAD micro-controllers. We are looking at 480x272 resolution.  The DK board has  a Kentec LCD panel with 320x240 resolution.  Can some suggest  LCD panels that are suitable with TM4C controllers.

Narendra

  • Two quick comments - usually - but not always - your 480x272 pixel array is confined to TFTs of 4.3 or 5.0" diagonal.

Due to cell-phone expansion - such displays have been surpassed by 800x480 pixel arrays (and perhaps few variants) - in the same (physical size)!     Such improvement is most notable!

Beyond "added pixels" many such panels now include, "data-bus compatible - in-built controllers" - which include & manage the frame buffer.      Such proves a, "big-deal" as your connection interface is vastly eased/simplified - and far less "demand" is placed upon the MCU.

Perhaps your "look at displays" may benefit - now armed with such (new) knowledge...

  • Hello Narendra

You can look at the 640x480 Panels as well.

  • Such "640x480" panels usually "start" at/around 5.7" diagonal - larger than poster's (unexpressed yet expected) 4.3" target...
  • Hello cb1,

Yes, lets wait for the size expectation!!!

  • May I place 10 (USD) on 4.3"? (in this case - dreaded outsider has, "inside info!")

  • No wagers. Only data.
And while we are it, the poster need to clarify, interface type, RGB format and other details that are needed more than just size of panel.

    Amit
  • Note that the (suggested) "data-bus compatible - in-built controller/frame buffer" escapes the need for such, "clarification."

And spectacularly eases the set-up/config of such panels - while greatly reducing the "added memory component & interconnect burden!"
  • We are looking at 4.3" TFTpanel 24 bit RGB, preferably parallel interface and an in built controller with RAM.

Mais certainement mon ami - mais certainement!      (cb1's wallet struggles to close - "fattened by 10 USD")

Parallel interface may not prove as "clear" as you like - "data bus compatible" (as was suggested) better defines - does it not?

Local distributor (disty) should be able to survey - and advise.     Do keep in mind that your product must "compete" against encroaching cell-phones - and all modern ones have long exceeded 480x272!      (thus making your (earlier, 480x272) pixel array appear "sparse" in comparison)      This is an unfortunate reality - which I urge you to fairly consider.     (i.e. so often the display serves as, "heart/soul" of the product!)

A "good" disty should be able to locate enhanced pixel array AND "data bus compatible" for bit higher cost.      (trust me - you'll get to market so much faster - and save so much time/effort/development costs - by adopting a display which includes such, "in-built, data-bus compatible, controller!)

  • Hello Narendra,

You may want to check Kentec Displays.
