My controllerTM4C123GH6PGE mounted on evaluation board getting heated when i connect it to Computer using ICDI.

When i measure the current  by removing the jumper it is 650mA.What could be the problem..

Thank you

You're silent as to what cruel usage/handling fate may have befallen your MCU.    That indeed is your major problem - now!

Such problems usually stem from: ESD, over-voltage, external connections which introduce signals or place stress beyond the MCU's published specifications.

You note MCU "heating" - if your "finger" serves as your test probe - that (improper) handling alone may account for ESD damage.

Post provides no "history" of your board - fails to note the age, past use, and other "useful" info. - usually required to make some valid diagnosis...

  • Hello Anand

Is it just the device or is there more connected to the EVM. Also one thing you did not mention was if the USB for the Main MCU is being used or not

  • Hello Anand,

    1. Is the problem only coming when you connect ICDI and not coming when you power it through another USB OTG port?
    2. If board is heating and it is not in working status, then there is possibility of shorting on power rail through MCU which may be caused by improper power supply which exceeds absolute rating of MCU or sometimes due to high overshoots on IO lines. Also check for physical shorting due to solder balls etc...
    3. Large current draw also happen when accidentally an VCC / IO (which you try to drive high) physically connected to ground during soldering or testing etc...
  • By poster's silence - it appears that (more than) just his MCU (likely thru improper connection and/or operation) became, "heated."
