usb target socket not recognized any more...how to check if card is doomed?

i am using tm4c 1294xl.

since last night i cant see my usb (target side) in the windows devices.

it worked great before, now i tried to put example from the debug usb and this worked fine and ran the program

does anyone has idea what happened to my usb target socket(i am using it as usb bulk) or maybe how i can check if the card is doomed???

Specifics please. Which example, which USB socket, what is not working, what is the device manager saying?

example:usb_dev_bulk
the usb socket near the Ethernet port

device manager doesnt show anything.... tried in another pc also but without any success

the card does have voltage and he is running using OTG jumper for power

Hello Idan

Move back the jumper to ICDI power, instead of using OTG Power. Also is the TM4C129 device becoming very hot when you connect the cable?

i did that and saw the deubgger devices but still not the bulk device (as i always saw)

yes it becomes hot

and it seems that the device does run the program when i upload other programs

but i need the OTG to work as a device

Hello Idan,

it seems that you have run into a errata on TM4C129 (GPIO#09). Can you keep the cable plugged in and then power up the board?

Hello Idan,

Not sure why it is still not working. It could be a damage to the device when the last time around it remained in the same high current state. Is this the only USB application not working or are their other usb applications that do not work. If it is the latter case then it may be a no-go/

ALL usb apps not working.... :(

so their is nothing to do but to buy new board?? so i must try get new board for my final university project.... any idea how to get it fast??

p.s can you elaborate what might cause this strange behavior??

and of course how can i avoid this issue once again

BTW this happened after idle using meaning the card was connected to the pc for 24 hours without doing anything but running his main loop

Hello Idan,

You would need to implement the changes as mentioned in the errata on the PCB. It is not an easy change.

As to the issue occurrence it could be during a unplug-plug the IO's may have got latched up.

when you say errata what do you mean?

if i understand this occurred maybe because the connector itself was damaged due to many plug in and plug out? or by one of gpios(uart 3,7) or gnd or 3.3v??

so you recommend to buy new chip?

Please see my previous posts "it seems that you have run into a errata on TM4C129 (GPIO#09)". You have to look at the errata document associated with the device on the device page on www.ti.com

The damage may have been to the USB Pins due to current latch up inside the device.

Hello Idan,

You would have to cut traces on the board to implement "USB Device only" fix.

• USB Device Only:

– A 100 Ω resistor should be placed in series between the PB1 (USB0VBUS) pin and VBUS on the USB connector(pb1 , where it should be connected to? to the usb plug case(female plug near the ethernet?)

– A 0.1 µF capacitor should be placed as close as possible to the PB1 (USB0VBUS) pin(one leg of the capcitor should be on PB1 and the other on GND?)

– PB0 (USB0ID) should be left floating and configured as a GPIO input(nothing should be done?)

Amit,do you recommend to do this fix once ill recive the new board?

Hello Idan,

I would recommend the change, unless you can ensure that the plug/unplug is always done with power OFF to the device.

Resistor change should be done close the TM4C129 device. Cap change is correct and PB0 must be changed in the main code to a GPIO.
