Tiva TM4C123 microcontroller burnt & released fumes

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TM4C123GH6PGE

Hi,

We developed two nos of boards based on TM4C123GH6PGE.

Yesterday (thursday), In the morning one of the board had given chirping sound & microcontroller released fumes from the middle of the chip as soon as I switched on the power supply.

one day before (Wednesday) in the  evening time only I was doing the debugging & the board was working fine with the same power supply & voltage/ current level set. I switched off the power supply in that eve.

I only had switched on in the next morning when this incident happened.

We are not using any bettery or charged capacitor in the boards.

What may be the reason behind it?

Kindly suggest!!

  • Hello Sayed,

Can't be sure as to the events leading to the "fuming" devices are till yesterday. EOS over time may have weakened the device causing it to fail in this manner. 10's of things that may have gone wrong before the device failed. E.g. Was the power supply current limited?

    Regards
