TM4C123GXL Pins in Short Circuit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EK-TM4C123GXL

Hello TM4C Forum,

I have a new problem.

I saw short circuit in "EK-TM4C123GXL Rev A Schematic" pdf.

PD0 with PB6 and PD1 with PB7 pins short circuit with 0 ohm resistors.

I will not make pins short circuit. Is that a problem?

Also, if I make short circuit the pins, will I use separately?

Why engineer of TI maked short circuit the pins?

Regards

  • Problem? Not really, their should not be any damage.

Can they be used at the same time? Nope. If you use PD0 you can't use PB6, if you use PD1 you can't PB7, and vice-versa in both cases.

    I advise removing them.

Those we're supposed to allow compatibility with old boosterpacks for the first launchpad, the MSP430G. Now they are just a nuisance (I would like to know which boosterpacks were those)

    Hi Luis,

    May I (slightly) disagree?

As those unfortunate enough to HAVE used both pins have found - and having both pins configured as outputs - (one set high, other low) - the MCU is NOT happy!

There is "nothing" to prevent one from "missing" the "mice-type" warning buried in the board's schematic - and then setting both pins as output.

This poster was thorough enough to (somehow) detect that warning - and properly, "sound the alarm."

Your advice to pop those 0Ω "destroyers" from their slots is, "spot on."

  • Thanks, i could not use SSI2 and SSI3 simultaneously. I desolder 0 ohm resistor R9 and R10 and 'voalá'. All working.

    Best regards,

    Fernando

  • Good for you.

You may wish to (more properly) solder those "plague-istors" in "tombstone" fashion (one end only - soldered perpendicularly to the pcb) to (properly) memorialize a horrendous vendor decision which has been allowed to torment so many - for so long!

  • Jajaja, the idea is great.
    Regards.
