IoT Requirements and Solution

Hi,

I am trying to develop an end to end IoT solution using TM4c129 launchpad. I will be reading data from a PLC using Modbus RTU and transferring it to the internet using ethernet.

I need some help for developing the cloud/ web page UI and subsequently an Android/ iOS application for the same.

Following are the basic requirements of the project:

  • 100 tags to be read/written
  • Web page and Mobile app should contain graphs/ datalogs
  • Dynamic IP present

I have tried exosite and the sample IoT program provided, but I require a free/cheaper solution with multiple users and customizable UI.

Please provide an example webpage and mobile app if possible.

Thanks,

Tanmay

  • Hi Tanmay,

It would be difficult to find a free/cheaper solution to services provided by Exosite or similar cloud service provider. Check out also services provided by ThingWorx.

  • What is the exact protocol which is required to send data from controller to a web page? Suppose I have my own server, what is the format of the data that needs to be sent? Is there a reference design available?
  • Tanmay,

The fact you're asking this tells me that you don't know "how things work" too deeply. That's ok, but if you're developing a serious IoT application, then you should really know. Which is why I suggest either using Exosite or similar providers and sticking to their protocols, or taking a timeout in your project to familiarize yourself with the technologies that make the Internet work. Delving into that falls far outside the scope of this forum, though.

    Kind regards,

    Veikko

Bravo Veikko - very well (and bravely) stated.

Too often - for a variety of reasons - project objectives are chosen without full or proper admittance of the, "Time, Costs & Efforts" they demand.

One's "reach" should exceed one's "grasp" - but (some) limits should apply...   Those seeking (both) "free" and "exact protocols" (also free) may not be firmly anchored to reality...
