Microcontroller with built-in ethernet.

Do you have any recommendations for a microcontroller with built-in ethernet, which is suitable for an aerospace application? Something along the lines of the TM4C1294 would be ideal.

  • Hello David,

What are the requirements from the Aerospace application? Do note that there are very stringent requirements in terms of safety and failure rates.

Our small tech firm past produced a small 4x20 Lcd w/soft-keys which flew (successfully) upon the "Shuttle."   I recall that our standard plastic enclosure could not be used due to "out-gassing" - instead the "prime contractor" milled down an aluminum enclosure for us.  (making it a fraction of its original weight)

There should be listings of "qualified devices" we past worked w/two "aero/space qualified:"

    • Univ. of AL @ Huntsville
    • Univ. of WI @ Madison

There are likely others - yet those two provided great assistance and should be able to serve you...

  • Our technical requirements are not severe; for instance, the Industrial temperature range of -40 to +85 C is sufficient. The main issues have to do with finding certified parts from a qualified vendor, which are suited to the requirements of high reliability (i.e. no tin whiskers). We have used the EP versions of T.I. parts and are very satisfied with them.

  • Hello David,

If the question is on reliability I would suggest RM470 or TM470 Cortex R4 parts from TI catalog.
